I am 61 years of age. I have over twenty-five years of experience in the customer service business mainly working for one company UBS/Painewebber. I was also a registered Real Estate Sales Representative for two (2) years. I love working with people. Nothing beats the feeling of satisfied customers. I was diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) in 2004. Needless to say, I was surprised. My first thought was how did this happen? My doctor explained to me, the things I was doing wrong and the things I needed to do to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In essence, being diagnosed with diabetes involved a complete lifestyle change (as it related to me) in diet complemented with medication and some form of exercise.
In my mind, I knew this lifestyle change would be by no means easy. My first thought was: How would I survive my ‘sweet tooth’ addiction of over forty plus years? My second thought was: How could I give up all those awesome dishes I grew up loving? My head was spinning in all directions. However, reality sunk in and I was determined to do whatever was necessary to counteract being diagnosed with diabetes.
My main focus to fight diabetes besides medication would be my eating habits. Thus, one of my main focus would be to educate myself as much as possible on foods I could eat and those I could not. Let’s be realistic here! Lifestyle changes to eating habits are not easy. Anyone that says otherwise (in my opinion) is not telling you the truth. These changes will only happen over time if you are hardworking, determined, dedication and strong-willed to learn and make the necessary adjustments. Why? There are always temptations around. We are most vulnerable during picnics, barbecues, outings, eating out, office parties and especially during the holidays, and so forth. I would need to concentrate on low sugar, low fat, and low sodium foods.
I will be offering you many diabetic recipes, diabetic ideas, diabetic products aid and even satisfy your temptations. All while promoting a healthy living lifestyle. Things such as wonderful diabetic appetizers ( such as soups and salads), sensible diabetic main courses, awesome diabetic drinks and sweets (smoothie lovers can drink to their heart’s delight sensibly), diabetic desserts to satisfy your souls, do you love munchies? For you, there will be diabetic munching delights. There will be offerings to satisfy most of your cravings. Don’t despair, your satisfaction in a healthy eating diabetic lifestyle will be addressed along with new tips, diabetic news, technologies, supplies, diabetic recipes on healthy diabetic eating as they become available here, and other health-related information from trusted sources.
On a personal note: In 2009, my weight was 254 pounds. Since maintaining a healthy diabetic eating lifestyle, I have been successful in reducing my weight to 177 (updated from 201 January 1, 2018), a whopping 77 pounds reduction (updated from 53 as of January 1, 2018), reduction or about 8 1/2 pounds per year (updated January 1, 2018). For those of you suffering from diabetes and interested in weight loss, a healthy eating diabetic lifestyle can offer some aid in that direction. Please do not misunderstand what I am saying. I am not saying you are guaranteed to lose weight with a healthy eating diabetic lifestyle because there may be other factors involved in losing weight in each individual case. In my case, I have multiple (4-6) casual walks every day to supplement my diabetic eating habits. What I am saying, eating healthy with diabetic recipes can point you in the right direction in weight loss. Consult your Primary Physician/Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist for additional clarity on what is your best course of action.
